Overview

Stirling Cooper Academy is a members-only e-learning platform for adults, offering expert-led video courses on intimacy, sexual performance, and relationships. It's built as a complete learning experience: structured courses whose lessons unlock as members progress, quizzes that gate advancement, and take-home tasks to apply what they've learned. Gamification runs throughout — experience points, daily streaks, ranks and badges, and a weekly leaderboard — while a community layer adds topic-based chat channels, scheduled livestream Q&As with the host, a referral system, and a store for books and related products.

Project Goals

I built this application single-handedly, designing and developing both the frontend and the backend — an ambitious and rewarding challenge. I owned the business logic, code quality, and architecture end to end, keeping the codebase clean and well-structured so the platform stays easy to scale as it grows.

Features

Academy

The academy is the core of the platform — a video course player where members work through structured courses and lessons. Later lessons stay locked until earlier ones are complete, and each lesson pairs the video with take-home tasks, a personal notes field, a "mark as complete" action, and course ratings, so progress always feels deliberate and earned.

Streak

To build a daily habit, the platform tracks a learning streak. A member's streak grows for every day they watch a lesson and resets if they skip a day — a simple, motivating nudge to keep coming back, celebrated with a streak pop-up.

Rank & Achievement

Progress is recognised with ranks and badges. As members hit milestones they climb through ranks and unlock new badges, surfaced with a celebratory "new rank achieved" moment that reinforces momentum.

Quiz

Each course includes multiple-choice quizzes that gate progression: members must score 100% to move on, and a failed attempt can simply be retaken. Clear success and failure screens tell members exactly where they stand, ensuring they've genuinely absorbed the material before advancing.

LiveStream & Community

A community hub combines scheduled livestreams with an active members' space. Members can see when the next livestream Q&A is starting, revisit past streams with the questions they covered, browse topic-based chat channels, and earn a free month by referring friends who subscribe.

Leaderboard

A weekly leaderboard ranks members by the experience points they earn, resetting each week to keep the competition fresh, with a Hall of Fame for all-time standouts. It turns steady study into a bit of friendly rivalry.

Live Chat

Topic-based community chat lets members talk in real time across channels such as Health, Mental Fortitude, Sexual Mastery, and Dating & Relationships. They can share images, react to messages with emoji, and keep the conversation going between lessons and livestreams.

Purchase

Beyond the courses, members can buy supporting books and products from an in-app store. The Purchases area shows what they already own alongside recommended products, giving the academy an additional, self-contained revenue stream.

Challenges

Getting the gamification right was a challenge — reliably tracking streaks, experience points, ranks, and badges, and surfacing them at the right moment after a lesson without disrupting the flow. Building the real-time layer for live chat and livestreams added further complexity, as did wiring quizzes into course progression so lessons unlock only once a member has passed.

Initiatives

To keep members engaged and progressing, the platform leans heavily on gamification: experience points, daily streaks, ranks, badges, and a weekly leaderboard all reward consistency, while quiz-gated lessons ensure mastery before advancing. Real-time livestreams and community chat build a sense of belonging, and a referral program turns existing members into a growth channel — together making for a dynamic, interactive learning experience for adults.
